I remember that in the first month I played ED (last November) I watched a video on Youtube called something like "how to get an Anaconda in 24h" (at the time the most expensive ship in the game) and really liked it (there were some good "how-to's" in it). For example doing community goals, trading goods on your own outside missions (use ), exploring outside the inhabited space (bubble), doing rare commodities or long range/smuggling runs, hunting wanted ships or participating in conflict zones, mining in asteroid fields, enrolling into PowerPlay (choose a faction and go into "politics") or further improving your ships with Engineers.īe sure to take your time and understand the game and after a while it will seem familiar like a job you like or a way of life. When you have a decent ship and some cash, you can start to play "the way you want". Just don't forget that a new ship has a very poor configuration (E class all) and its optional modules are far from optimal in every way (even the cargo racks already present are of lower size that the maximum possible size of that compartment).

You can place lower size components in some of the modules (for example A3 power plant in a 4 size power plant module) so you have a lot of options how to customize your ship. For example, an exploration vessel should have most of the components of D grade, because they are lighter, but the biggest A grade FSD (frame shift drive) that the ship can accommodate. There are 2 types of speed (normal and boost), but also there are 2 types of jump calculations(economical and best - check in galaxy map). Weight affects ship speed and jump range. There are certain characteristics of the letter each module has (A is the best, B is heavier but cheaper, C is A weight but lower grade and cheaper than B, D is the lightest, E is the default, the cheapest and the worst. The limitations of the ships are weight and power consumption, every component has them. Use to plan any ship build that you want to make or any module change. Don't forget to have at least 5% cash available of the total amount of value that you spent on the ship, otherwise you won't be able to re-buy it if you are destroyed (they have a loan of up to 600k credits if I remember well, but.). After that you can work out to improve your ship to mostly A components and adapt it to the role you want to play (mostly) in the game. Your main objective in the first few hours of the game should be to make money and to buy either a Viper MK3 (for fighting if that's your main activity) or a Cobra MK3 for a multi-role ship. There just "help" the police fight the bad guys and be sure that you shoot a lot into them while they are occupied to fight with Security, especially in the last 10 seconds before they blow up. You can change the Sidewinder with a Hauler if you don't want to fight at all (for now) and keep doing the easy missions while improving your Hauler jump range and cargo or you can just improve a bit your Sidewinder (gimballed lasers instead of fixed and better thrusters, shields, etc.) and go to a Nav Beacon (not compromised) or to a Resource Site (any but Hazardous) in an asteroid belt, in a system with high security.

So, get some easy missions (courier, boom data delivery - check to have 4t of cargo space free for some rewards, that you will sell afterwards - you cannot take the mission if the reward includes cargo besides money and you don't have space for it) from the same station (in order to build up your reputation with them and get better missions) and either go the hauler way or the bounty hunter way. Some of the old players may disagree, but IMHO first thing on your agenda is to get rid of the Sidewinder as soon as possible. No matter the type of play, the universe is the same, your commander is the same, the "save game" is the same. There are some private groups (Mobius, Mobius PVE) dedicated to the players that want to avoid such interactions. On Open, you may encounter some players that will destroy you at sight, just for fun, but they are not the majority of the community. You can play the game Solo, Open or private groups. Be sure that they are taking into account the current state of the game (i.e post 2.1 version). Be prepared to watch Youtube videos and read wikis and tutorials. And don't forget that first of all you need in-game money to play the way you like. Make yourself familiarized with the basics first: the keys, the flight controls (with pip management), the galaxy, the background simulation, the main activities that you can perform.Īfter that, make a plan with short, medium and long term objectives.
